Fields of Beauty

It has been a busy week! My husband's mother died December 25 and along with the grieving comes lots of paperwork to take care of. Thankfully everything has been smooth so far. R has been busy in the workshop building a new bookcase for cookbooks.

Wednesday night R pulled in the driveway and spotted 3 deer in the field next to the house.
The following night, he opened the garage door and the trio were in the field staring at him. He thinks they are probably coming out of the wooded area in front of our house and going to the open field to graze.

not our deer but three deer grazing next to condo while in Branson

We live in a subdivision; our 1950's home is in the older section. In front of our home are two neighbors and a section of woods. One fall day this fine buck stopped long enough for me to run and grab the camera for a quick photo. What a beauty!

When we bought our 50's home in the 80's, our almost acre lot consisted of a front yard, back yard and large side yard or field. In the field grew a large patch of strawberries, apple trees and a garden with mainly potatoes. An old 1930's or 40's rusty antique truck stood nearby. A dilapidated  wooden shed for storing the potatoes and hanging herbs was also close. All are now gone! We lost the apple trees a few years after a large ice storm hit western Kentucky (2009). Wooden shed was replaced by a new workshop and the garden is mainly in the backyard.

Crown Vetch or Hive Vine grows on the fence row by the field...it is a great attraction for the bees along with honey suckle and wild roses

So that is the story of our field; for now it is a spot for deer to graze....

Our son and his wife, Katie, are expecting their third son any day (our 4th grandson and 6th grandchild); this coming week should be extra special!!!!
