Birds of Many Colors

On Thursday the weather turned colder and we had a few snow flakes that gave way to a cold rain. We put some extra bird feed on the well cover. Birds of many colors came to snitch a few seeds. The red of the Northern Cardinal and the blue of the Blue Jay stood out next to the small Dark-eyed Junco and Mourning Dove. A Eastern Towhee also made an appearance. There were always plenty of finch (House Finch and Pine Siskin)on the cover.  A beautiful Red-Bellied Woodpecker flew in and out. There were birds in the backyard and at the feeder in the front yard! My husband brought the binoculars out for some far away views. It is warming up now and should be a nice week-end. Soon the feeders will be empty and the birds will be singing and busy building nests for their families. Next winter we will again enjoy the birds at the feeders!!

last year R made this homemade bird feeder...this year we opted to not use it

American Robin is in Kentucky year-round. They like to eat insects, fruit, berries and worms.

The House Finch or Pine Siskin blends in nicely on the Crepe Myrtle tree/bush. Both like to eat seeds and fruit and leaf buds.

Dove coming in for a landing!
