First Week of July...Rain, Rain and Rain
What can I say, except July has been rainy! I can't really complain, because I would rather have rain than no rain! July 4,the fireworks down by the riverfront went fine till the finale and then they fizzled and people didn't even know the show was over till it was announced over the speakers. Here are a few photos from several years ago...wonderful memories!
Then on July 6 R arrived home from running errands. He was about ready to go back out, when I noticed the sky turning dark, the weather alarm started alarming, and the tornado sirens were heard in the background. Just like that a thunderstorm with strong winds came upon western Kentucky and our road. The phone rang and our neighbor called from his driveway. Just as he pulled in a large poplar fell across the road behind him. Our road was at an impasse! R told him as soon as the storm passed he would get the chainsaw ready for action. While R was up at the workshop, I opened the door and the smell of natural gas about knocked me over. Was it our house? Where was this dangerous smell coming from. So I starting walking up the road (going through neighbors yards) and at the top of the hill there at the curve was a fire truck and several people standing around. Another neighbor's very large tree fell on top of another N's truck and on a gas line! Finally, the gas was turned off and R's chainsaw got to work opening up the road to traffic. Today was the first day out and there are trees down everywhere! We are thankful that no one was hurt and that in time homes and vehicles will be restored. Guess that was our week!
The hummingbirds did not mind the storms, they kept flying around the feeder with wet feathers.
But our neighbor's dog, Victor, was a different story. He was outside for the day while owners were out. When I opened the door at the beginning of the storm, Victor ran inside like a bolt of lightning.Victor is a friend of our small terrier, Brutus. Many times I've offered for him to come in but to no avail. This time IN he came and didn't want to leave :)
Here is a photo of Brutus's friends and foes in the neighborhood. First row friends, second row foes.
In July the Mimosa trees (also called silk tree) are in bloom...
...the Crepe Myrtle is covered with its unique flowers of purple...
...the squirrels have been busy at the magnolia tree...
...and a large summer spider's web extended in the corner of the porch...
Well, that's the first week in July!!! Hope you are well and keeping safe.
