Nothing To Sneeze About

While relaxing on the backyard swing, the color yellow seemed to pop out in the "lens of my eyes". When that happens, you know it's time to grab the camera and take a few photos that are "timeless". Today is a lukewarm day (not too cold and not too hot) with a cloud cover to hold the temps down; rain showers are in the forecast. Fall is also in the forecast...next week's forecast calls for autumn! Ronnie is busy wrapping things up on a new cedar chest for a friend...I think it's beautiful! It is all done except for the stain.

I've been cleaning out the garden on the cooler days...it now stands in a heap, ready for the wheelbarrow.

Journal Entry ~End of Summer 2016~

GOLDENROD

Kentucky's state flower is the goldenrod! Here it is growing in a field next to our house. I didn't realize it, but there are about 125 species that grow in this country.
Wonder what kind ours is? Goldenrod like the openness of meadows and fields. My husband is allergic to Ragweed in the fall. The Goldenrod is not quite as "sneeze" worthy, that's a good thing! What about their smell? not too sweet. Most have a pungent odor; although, some are anise-scented. This wildflower's leaves can be dried and used for a tea or tonic (I think I'll pass and stick with mint).

HACKBERRY BUTTERFLY

The Hackberry Butterflies are a flutter around the Hackberry tree. The females are larger than the males and have a lighter color. I think the one above is a male ???
These butterflies love the wide open woodlands. Of course, they are also found near  HACKBERRY TREES

Lots of Wood For Winter
While walking around the yard, I noticed R had been busy stacking some new wood for winter. This summer a LARGE over 200 year old oak tree fell in our yard. I was thankful no one was injured. The county came and cleaned up (tree was on the line of our property and the county). There is still more to cut and stack, but that can wait for cooler, much cooler weather.

LEAVES ARE FALLING

The trees are beginning to change "clothes"...that is leaf color! The greens are becoming yellow, red, orange and brown. Some dry leaves drop to the ground.
Also I notice just a few flowers left on the Rose of Sharon. The Southern Magnolia has fruit, which is just beginning to bear red seeds.

This photo was taken a few years back...
Well, that's just a few of the changes going on in our yard. The summer season is coming to a close...
