Photos Tell A Story
When looking at photos, they bring to mind places, people, and events. I love to look back at old black and white photos from my childhood or from even the more distant past of ancestors. Here are just a few photos with a story. Enjoy! Hope to continue this blog in 2017...we'll see.
Trees and Butterflies: the large Hackberry Tree is beautiful and gives shade to the dog pen. It is also a favorite of the Hackberry Butterfly. Last week butterflies were fluttering all around this large tree, they must have known cold weather was on the way...

Ruby-Throated Hummingbird: the first hummingbird of summer arrived at the new red glass feeder. Throughout the season we would hang several feeders from the front porch. Lots of photos would be taken. This sweet hummingbird decided to visit the oregano flowers instead. They are smallest bird in the state of Kentucky; hovering, flying up and down and backward, chattering to communicate, flapping wings 50 to 60 times per second. Today the chatter is gone and it is quiet on the porch...our rubies have migrated to southern states, Mexico and Central America. Be safe and see you next summer!!!

Mom~Mulberries~Memories: it is spring, the red mulberry tree has green leaves and green fruit hanging from its branches... my mom comes through the kitchen door, she has a scarf tied under her chin and is wearing a loose fitting brown sweater to keep the morning chill off, in her hand is a small bowl filled with red mulberries. Steam rises as the berries boil on the stove. The sweet tart taste lingers in my mouth; the gritty stems have to be swallowed... Today in our yard stands one small mulberry tree, the berries ripen and are not picked except by birds. It is fall and the leaves are yellow and dry, ready to die. Only her memory is left.

Sun Setting: we were on the road heading to Arkansas for a family visit; the sun was sinking in the western sky and clouds were beginning to take on a pinkish glow. The truck stop, Flying J, was just over the hill, a place to STOP, rest and admire creation's color palette before being erased by the blackness of night. Color filled sunsets never cease to inspire!
~~The Tail Of Stubby: the small tulip magnolia tree has crevices and hiding places perfect for any squirrel...this gray squirrel thinks he is hiding😳his long bushy tail is camouflaged. Years ago this same tree was a favorite hangout for a special squirrel called Stubby...he only had a stub for a tail. On very hot days he would sprawl out on the tulip tree branches, he would climb down sunflower stalks head first and eat from the bird feeders. Stubby got old and could barely run (walk) from tree to tree. The last time I saw him, he was sitting by the tulip tree😟.

Unexpected Red Leaf: R was getting an oil change yesterday and the guy said we are suppose to get a lot of snow the end of Oct. Not sure where he came up with that info🤔!? ...one day last year it snowed; the small run off stream was freezing and all looked "picture" perfect📷! Looking over the photos on the computer, SURPRISE one red leaf was peeping through...the remains of autumn🍁🍁🍂🍂🍁🍂

Out Of The Woods: This morning as I was backing the car out of the garage, movement in my rear view mirror made me stop. A young buck was passing by or jumping by! He paused for moment to stare and then headed into the wild thickets of the woods. This photo was taken on Oct. 29, 2013...as I opened the front door a gentle eyed deer stopped at the woods edge and waited long enough for me to grab a camera. Wonder if today's Buck is a grandson?

Monarch Resting: While walking on the treadmill I pass the time by looking out the window and listening to Pandora. Then, there it was sitting on a bush, the splendid monarch butterfly! I quickly grabbed the Cool-pix camera hanging on the doorknob and the step ladder behind the refrigerator. Out the door and around the corner to the bush, it was still there ready for a photo shoot! After several photos, off it flew to fields of milkweed.

Backyard Bandit: One year our peach tree was loaded and just perfect for picking the next day. As we slept one of our backyard creatures feasted or saved EVERY peach! They had a busy night. This photo was taken this summer; a gray squirrel picked up a half eaten peach with its wee hands, took a bite and then promptly scampered off with its find 🍑🍑🍑

When I see a photo it is the story behind the photo that adds that extra delight!
