"Papa" Projects In the Workshop
Sitting on my desk is a very, very old bottle of Coppertone. When I feel stressed, the cap comes off and I breathe in the wonderful "memory smell" that takes me back to the 60's with swimming pools, tanning in the back yard with girlfriends, a cute yellow two piece swimsuit and puppy love. All of that in one whiff of Coppertone. Another smell that I'm sure is becoming a "memory smell" is my husband's workshop. The smell of fresh wood takes me out to the woods and what a relaxing and inspiring place that is! I enjoy watching him build something from just a tree cut down after the Ice Storm of 2009. Cedar trees become cedar chests for each of our children. He just finished making corn-holes this week (corn-hole is a game!)for each our three children. Yes, I love the show "This Old House" and my husband's work shop!

The Red Cedar Tree (whose bark is grey) stands so tall in the backyard and is a wonderful tree for the birds, especially in the winter. It is also a great tree for "Papa" projects. After an Ice Storm, R. helped remove several Red Cedar's for a neighbor. The neighbor gave the wood to R. and he made beautiful cedar chests for each child and a birdhouse for the granddaughters. There is nothing like the smell of cedar! I just loved going into the workshop while he was busy at work and making a "memory smell"!
