Firsts and Celebrations
This was a week of firsts...
While sitting on the porch, I noticed a "first" for this year. The quick fluttering of a white butterfly caught my eye and then a yellow one followed. Hooray, the butterflies are back!! Probably some type of sulphur for the yellow and maybe a white cabbage for the white butterfly. No photos were taken due to excessive motion. I guess they are as excited to be flying as I am to be watching.
One year (May 2010) while looking out the window as I worked out on the treadmill, a monarch butterfly sat proudly on the bush next to the window. It stayed resting long enough for me to run and grab my small cool-pix camera and a little step-ladder. The monarch lives about one month, from egg laid singly on leaves or blossoms to the adult, which emerges from the shiny green and gold-speckled chrysalis. The larva is striped with yellow, black, and white.
Another first...
The first grass mowing of the season was yesterday. My husband mowed half of the yard; the rest will have to wait till the soil dries out more! The grass looks greener after that first mow and the lovely smell of fresh wild onions is a "memory" smell of spring. As I sit here typing, the sound of our neighbor's lawnmower fills the air.

greener than green
under the magnolia tree...a favorite spot!
even Victor came to see what was going on...

Tomorrow our youngest son and his wife will be celebrating their 9th wedding anniversary.
They have blessed our family with grandson, Noah, and another grandchild will be arriving this fall :) God willing.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend!!
Juliet
