A Wild and Beautiful Day

Today it is going to feel like summer, with temperatures getting in the 80's!! This morning when I went to get the paper my breath could be seen! What a change as the day goes on...

The two red maple trees are blooming out nicely. It makes me so happy to see them flourishing, because I thought after this winter they might die. During the winter, we had regular nightly visits from a deer family of four. The buck started using the small trunks to scrap the velvet off his antler. We quickly put plastic around the trunk and hoped for the best. They look wonderful right now.

Speaking of wild things...this week we also saw for the first time a wild turkey walking around in the yard. Turkey hunting in Kentucky began April 16. My husband mentioned "the blue head" on the wild turkey.

This week the Azalea Bush is in full bloom. We have only one (the other died) and its red flowers are stunning!

The mulberry tree is loaded with ripening fruit!! We should have a bumper crop of mulberries :)

While relaxing on the porch, I'll take notice of birds listening for worms, cats hiding near woods...watching birds, herbs growing in the planter, the scents of lilac/honeysuckle/wild roses filling the air, flowers falling from the tulip magnolia, insects buzzing close by, lawn mower erasing the dandelions of spring...and the list goes on, as I gently rock on the porch.

Brutus enjoying the beautiful day!
