Cooler Temps, Hotter Oven

Well, today it finally feels like fall!! I opened the door and a blast of cool air hit my face. In the hot summer months, my oven stays pretty empty, but now that fall is here (along with the cool temps) the oven will begin to heat up!

BREAD and ROLLS

This year I bought a book at the antique store...it is a very large book with lots of bread recipes. I'll have to try some of them this winter!

The bread machine is also a handy machine

a gift of flowers, bread machine on, herb tea brewing

to have in a pinch, but the taste of kneaded dough and bread rising in the oven, can't be beat! My favorite recipe for bread is one from my college home-EC class. It uses honey

and wholewheat flour (I like to substitute with all kinds of flours.

a well worn recipe

Some other favorites to bake are lasagna, healthy cookies, fruit cobblers, homemade pizza, bean enchiladas and apple pies...

Here's to fall!
As the leaves fall and the first frost blankets the yard, my jig-saw puzzles come out of the closet. They've been saved throughout the year just for the long winter months. Our kitchen table is covered with the small pieces of cardboard.
A puzzle, good books, aromas from the oven, a warm fire, Brutus curled up on the couch, winter birds at the feeders are just some of the "small" "simple" pleasures of life!
