November Lesson: Watch Your Step
November is coming to an end in a few days. Today it is windy and rainy; rain is good since we are in a light drought.
This month has been a first for me...I broke my little toe at the base and have been home bound for two weeks (have to wear boot 4 more weeks). The pain is much better today. Lesson: wear shoes in the house. I love, love to go barefoot in the house and outside. This summer I stepped on a bee, resulting in a swollen foot. Watch your step!
Due to pain and swelling I had to keep foot elevated and stay put. This gave me extra time to read.
Several November mornings have been cold and foggy. Our neighbor finally mowed his field, which made for a beautiful sunrise photo.
Several winter birds have arrived back...I noticed the Dark-eyed Juncos ...no pic yet. The first part of November we had LOTS of robins in the yard, stopping to get a drink and eat as the large flocks migrated south. A few are still around but not hundreds! I've been watching the nuthatch and listening to their cute little tweets. "Nuthatch" comes from the Middle English moniker nuthak, referring to the bird's habit of wedging a seed into a crevice and hacking it open. Our front yard is perfect for them since they like to hang out in conifer trees (getting seeds from cones).
Carolina Chickadee also hides in the Pine tree.
Our rat-terrier Brutus has had several visitors from across the street...Victor, Edgy and another terrier, Farley. Farley has yet to be adopted.
Brutus watches other dogs from his look out window.
Victor and Edgy come to see Brutus (and get a bone).
Here is Farley...he just made himself right at home...Brutus was not over joyed at seeing him on his lookout spot.
Here are a few misc. photos from November... leaves have fallen off the trees and they stand quite bare. No snow yet and Thanksgiving was spent alone (our first Thanksgiving alone since being married).
hope all have had a wonderful November
Juliet
